Happy Halloween Flock, even though it is usually a spooky day with that perfect fall air it is snowing all around the country. We’re getting stoked on ski season! This month we wanted to highlight one of our favorite places to visit year-round. With epic national parks to camp at in the summer and the ever famous tram ride during the winter, Jackson Hole is a must-visit destination.
What to do in Jackson Hole
Skiing
Jackson Hole is known as one of the most epic mountains in the country. After my visit last year, I see what all the hype is about. If you’re new to skiing this might not be the best mountain for you. On the other hand, if you’ve got a couple of seasons under your belt, get ready for some of the best riding of your life. Averaging over 450” of snowfall per year, you’re bound to find some powder on your visit.
If you’re feeling adventurous you have to try Corbets Couloir, known as one of the gnarliest inbound runs in the country, you’ll have some serious bragging rights at the lodge if you make it down in one piece.
Sled Rides in the National Elk Refuge
Sometimes you want to go on vacation and relax, and we dare you to name a better way to do that then getting pulled around the National Elk Refuge by a horse-drawn sleigh… The sleigh rides run from mid-December to early April and reservations are available for large groups here.
You’ll want to make sure to bundle up for this hour-long ride through the National Elk Refuge. Typically it is a bit colder there than in town, but don’t worry blankets are provided on the sleigh. You’ll learn all about why Elk migrate to this refuge. If you’re lucky you might see other wildlife such as Bison, Coyote, Eagles, and more. So if you need a day off the slopes, this is a pretty epic way to spend some time outside.
Where to Eat in Jackson Hole
Teton Thai
When you go to Jackson Hole and ask the locals where you need to eat, everyone will say you have to go to Teton Thai. Located in Teton Village, Teton Thai has been making authentic Thai food for over a decade. Be warned, this place is always PACKED, so expect a wait when you get there. Luckily for all of us, they have an awesome lounge to wait in with a fireplace, couches, and most importantly it’s the perfect place to get a pre-dinner cocktail.
Where to Drink in Jackson Hole
Million Dollar Cowboy Bar
One of the most iconic buildings in Jackson Hole is the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. In other words, you can’t go to Jackson and not have a drink or grab a quick bite here. With pool, live music, a dancefloor, and plenty of drinks to go around, you’re guaranteed a good time here. Stop by on your walk through town and saddle up for a beer… Yes, the bar stools are horse saddles.
Where to stay in Jackson Hole
The Anvil Hotel
Sometimes after a long ski day, you don’t want to get into your tent in 10-degree weather and we get that… No offense taken. There are a ton of great places to stay in Jackson Hole. Our favorite is the anvil hotel. Located in downtown Jackson, you are in the middle of it all. Anvil was once and down and out motel that has been converted into a boutique hotel that makes you feel right at home, as a result, it’s our favorite place to stay. From the free events in the lobby to their welcoming pup who greets you upon arrival, this is the place to stay for your getaway.
Well, flock, what are you doing? Book your trip to Jackson today. Get stoked for an epic season of skiing, sleigh rides, and saddling up at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. As always, don’t forget to tag us in your adventure on Instagram @roofnest.
