For latches attached with rivets

Tools needed

  • Hammer
  • Chisel or good flat head screwdriver
  • Small punch or 1/8” or smaller screwdriver
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • 7mm wrench or pliers
  • Sharp knife or box cutter

How to do it:

  1. 1. Use a hammer and chisel (or flat head screwdriver) to chop off the head of the rivets holding the latch onto the tent and remove latch and set aside.
  2. 2. Push the remaining rivet piece through the hole and into the tent.
  3. 3. Get into the tent and pull up the mattress and anti-condensation mat near the area where you are going to pull rivets out.
  4. 4. Locate each rivet by feeling along the inner liner of the tent where the latches are attached and make a small cut to gain access to the back side of the rivet.
  5. 5. Use a pliers to pull the rest of the rivet through the tent shell.
  6. 6. Assemble the new latch and block with the 2 enclosed phillips head machine screws (1.00” long).
  7. 7. Install this assembly into the holes in the tent shell, use duct tape or another person to hold in place while you attach the washer and nut to the screws on the inside of the tent.
  8. 8. Use Phillips head screwdriver and 7mm wrench to tighten the assembly.
  9. 9. Repeat these steps for each latch to replace.

The entire procedure can be done from inside the tent with the windows and doors open. This way you access to the outside and inside of the tent. One person can do this, but it helps to have a helper or some duct tape to hold things in place while tightening the nuts on the machine screws.
