ASA/ABS plastic Shell

The Condor’s shell is made from ABS plastic with an outside layer of ASA plastic for weather resistance.

Wall Material

The Condor’s wall material is a polyurethane-coated polyester and cotton blend with a waterproof rating of 3000mm (for comparison, a typical waterproof rating on a backpacking tent is 1000mm). The fabric is much thicker and tougher than a typical backpacking tent — more like a heavy-duty wall tent. The material provides additional warmth and is quieter in the wind due to its weight.

Doors and Windows

The Condor has 2 windows with canvas and mesh zip closures. The Condor has a main door with canvas cover and full-zip mesh window. There’s a sky light with both mesh and canvas full zip openings, and a clear plastic viewing window built into the tent cover.

Ladder

All Roofnests are shipped with a sturdy and lightweight 8.5′ telescoping ladder for easy access in and out of your tent. The ladder is collapsible and permanently attached to the fold-out base.

Built-in Mattress

Every Condor tent comes with a built-in, custom-shaped 6 cm foam mattress with a waterproof cover. This isn’t your typical camping mattress. It’s so comfortable, it feels like a real bed. Say goodbye to a poor night’s sleep while camping, and say hello to getting in a good snooze with a Roofnest.

Lighting

Every Condor XL comes with a single, detachable, interior LED strip light which can be powered with any USB battery.

Challenging install but enjoying the tent

RoofNest needs to hire women!! Are there any? Every single person I talked with throughout my buying process was a man. Also, I am 5'4" and I will need to use a stool to open and close my tent.. something that was not stated in any materials that I read. Not a deal breaker, but it would have been nice for someone to address height issues. Furthermore, taking down the tent is slower as a solo camper than it is when you have a second person to help tuck the fabric along the edges. I timed myself at about 16 minutes with the awning poles, rain fly, etc. Because of the factory roof rack on my 2006 Hyundai Tucson, it took 3 hours to secure the hardware to the rack. This was due to the tight distance between the roof of the car and the mounting brackets. We used duct tape and a stick to keep the bracket up against the Condor's mounting plate and used the supplied ratchet. Very awkward. I wish that I had been warned about this before my tent arrived and I even sent photos to customer service and they didn't say anything either. Another immediate challenge was the telescoping ladder. It is finicky and you have to get used to it! Make sure and extend it ALL the way before adjusting the top rungs. Customer service responded quickly and I figured it out after our call. Once I got everything secured, I went for an overnight and it was absolutely lovely! It's like a mobile tree house, floating in the clouds. I am in my early 50's and appreciated the firm mattress. Also, the air flow, multiple windows and skylight are a delight. I haven't tried the LED twinkle lights yet but I'm sure they will be a nice touch.

Love the tent, it did have a defect, overall fantastic

I used this tent across 169 miles on the Mojave road and throughout Death Valley and it has been great. The mattress in my opinion is just right, I have exped megamats and do not have to use it with the mattress. It is just thick enough although Im sure there will be people who would wish for more cushion. Ive used it in snow, and when all the windows are closed due to cold weather it does tend to build up moisture inside from exhaling. Keeping some windows open for ventilation helps with this and opening up all the windows for a few minutes dries everything fairly quick at least in dry weather. Ive used it in rain as well and seems very waterproof. DEFECT, the tent had a defect from the manufacturer, in my opinion its not that big of a deal. The light cables for the inside and outside of the tent need to be on same side of the tent to plug into the provided controller. Mine are on opposite ends of the tent, one for outside on left side of the tent on one for the inside on the right. This makes it impossible to use with one battery pack and one controller. Roofnest did provide me with a second controller and some other goodies that made me happy for this minor nuisance which does not effect the overall use of the tent in my opinion. I have been ground tenting for a very long time and bring along two kids 8 and 6 and my wife and we all fit inside fine. We have plenty of room if my wife 5ft, 8 and kids all sleep vertically and I lay horizontally near the entrance. We usually just sleep all vertically and just alternate one kid and one adult heads pointed towards hard side of tent and the other two heads towards entrance and have just enough room. I did have to grind down the heads of the mounting bolts to get them to fit the channel on the bottom of the tent to make them fit properly but also not that big of a deal with my Dremel tool. Best nite sleep I've ever had outside. Can't wait for my next trip with it.

Best in the business

I have many friends with rooftop tents I shopped long and hard for mine,, many reviews and lots of homework, I finally pulled the trigger on my roof nest condor XL, which has been ideal for my little family and dogs. My tent arrived ahead of schedule which was great, but I had damage from shipping in the corner of the tent, a couple of rivets and some broken aluminum corner pieces. I contacted roof Nest via email they responded quickly and had me taken care of well beyond my expectations, within a matter of days. my tent now is 100% and I’m Beyond satisfied, this company has the best customer service I have ever dealt with. The tent,,,, I can’t say enough about this tent, we camped in 35° temperatures, high in the mountains we had little condensation. the set up is such a breeze it looks great on my truck and the mattress Is phenomenally comfortable. The lighting is awesome. If your on the fence,,, This is the company to choose, i mean come on,, Free Shipping?? Its a no brainer.

Very nice tent

I went with the Condor. It is a very nice tent. Easy to set up and take down. It is also plenty big enough for my wife and I. If we had a dog or a kid, the XL would be the way to go. I'm giving it 4 stars only because the mattress is pretty hard and we will need to get another pad to put down.

Bought the old model. Mad I didn't wait for this model.

We absolutely love our condor XL but ours is the old model and it's a plastic top. No place to mount our solar panels, but the tent works great. never had a leak, built well, and plenty of room for me my wife and 2 kids. Just wished I'd have waited for this true hardtop because this plastic top warps and let's dust in. Still an awesome tent. Wished mine had the cover for the ladder because it will mess up the clear plastic sunroof on rainfly. We just use a towel. Lights inside tent did not work but roofnest compensated me for the default. Would highly recommend this tent to anyone. We love ours !!!! Great customer service too. They'll do you right if anything's wrong. I think the shipping company messed up my lights because there were dents and holes all in the box, but roofnest made it right even though they shouldn't have had to. Trade me mine with some extra cash for the new model roofnest, 😆

Amazingly awesome customer service and product

I bought the Condor because it's usually just me and my Beagle using it. This tent is amazing and made of high quality material. It's definitely a conversation starter. My high point of owning this tent has been the customer service. When I installed the tent on my Outback for the first time, I found a crack in one of the corners. No evidence of such crack on the box. I worked with Hunter through email and though they weren't able to send a whole new tent, not that I expected them to, the solution he came up with was more than fair. I am beyond impressed with this company's care for their service. It's a big purchase, but completely worth it to have such an amazing tent and to have people who care about their customers with you. I highly recommend this tent and this company. Thanks again Roofnest team, you guys rock!

I've loved every minute owning this tent...

We are a family of 4 that camps with our two young boys. We got the Condor XL to accommodate the 4 of us and make getting out and setting up quicker and easier. We have loved this tent and so have our boys. The convenience of setup/takedown compared to a ground tent is night and day. Not to mention the added sense of security you feel being up off the ground. I think Roofnest has done a great job paying attention to little details that other brands charge extra for. The built in LED lighting, the included shoe bags, and sand mat are all really convenient upgrades that are included in the package. Great tent, great company!

Maiden voyage

Headed from NH to Sw Florida in Jan..1st night at a camp ground in Va.. 30* raining I set this up by myself in 4 min in the rain...closed up next morning and headed down 95 got to Florida Georgia line and stayed at a Pilot truck stop no issues felt safe but COLD 27* stayed warm ...when I got to Florida I aired the tent out good because of condensation...my only issue is getting the ladder to lock still haven’t figured that out... 3 weeks later drove back no issues 1st night second night in Scranton Pa there was a blizzard 24” of snow ..had to cave and get a hotel room ..didn’t want to take a chance the tent would collapse on me ..
