Super Easy Camping

I just spent 3 nights in my mew Falcon XL, and I am way more than satisfied! It is SO large inside, and it is super comfy, and the dark material keeps the morning light out so I slept until 8:30’ish; normally up at 6:30! The first and second time I closed it by myself, I was NOT quoting scripture! Just take your time and it is super easy. I love all the extras included, very nice touch! I would have been on a solo trip for a month, however my fell and broke her hip, I had to return home immediately! Here to more wonderful nights!

Rock solid in wind and superior build quality but missing one thing....

I have had many RTT, this is the best build quality I have seen of any of my tents. I had the sparrow before this which is not made to the same attention to detail and quality for the exterior. This would be a 10/10 if you could keep your sleeping bags and small pillows in the tent. I need a mix of the quality of this tent but the convenience of the sparrow. 80% of the total setup in rolling up my sleeping bag and playing Janga in my Jeep to organize in store it before we get to the next spot. The tents only keep getting better but will be upgrading if one comes out with the metal quality and can store bedding.

Held up in HEAVY winds

I used my Falcon for the first time in the Nevada desert. We camped in a secluded valley that developed high 30-40 mph winds that came through all night. I woke up a few times. But the tent held up. My buddies smittybuilt took a beating and he had to sleep in his truck. Loving the low profile design. It really blends seamlessly with my 2007 Dodge Ram. I did not even drop any highway MPG with my Leitner/roofnest setup. I am so glad I paid the premium and went with a quality tent vs the other guys.

Best roof top

Falcon XL is a fantastic roof tent, well-built and super comfy mattress (better than my bed). I’m very happy with this purchase and the convenient of just park my jeep in any nice spot and open and close it in a minute. My small dog loves this tent.

Solid quality

There are primarily two reasons why I went with a Falcon over my initial inclination to go with a Sparrow. One is the extreme rugged durability with a solid metal case. The other is that it's very tall at its peak so if you want to sit up or get dressed there's a lot of height in that one area. It's roomy in some ways but it's also tight at the front point where it's narrowest. The other advantage that I've discovered as a pleasant surprise is that it's very solid in bad weather, especially when you point it into the wind. winds up to 20 mph are not even noticed when you're inside and it still holds up very well to wind speeds much higher than that. last of all, it's easy for me to close by myself since I've only gone solo camping with it.

Exactly what I wanted

I recerched a lot of roof top tents for four months and picked the Falcon XL. My wife and I talked about getting a camper but I didn't want to be tied down with a hauling a trailer, so I started looking into roof top tents. I was out west once before and saw them around which is where I got the idea. I don't think us east coasters have grasp this great camping alternative yet, you don't see them around here much. I recently retired and took a 32 day road trip around the country and traveled 10,000 miles. I went hiking, biking and visited a dozen of our national parks. I was selling on the roofnest, everywhere I went people were asking me about it and taking pictures of it. I loved my Roofnest. I'm planning another trip this summer. The only complaint I would have is the latches. They are impossible to open and close. I solved that problem with a quickgrip and release clamp. I was also a little worried about thunder storms. The tent looks great on my gray f-150 after I found a compatible rack and tonneau cover. Once I get my friends to help me put it on the truck this spring that is where it is going to stay until winter. It only rained two times while on my trip, but seemed to be nice and dry inside. If I leave early in the morning to go somewhere after a rainy night I just stop somewhere and its easy enough to just pop it up and down to let it dry. Great tent Roofnest, I'll keep selling on it Just wish I could find a way to send you a couple pictures because i'm not on face book.

Love this tent

I mounted the Falcon XL on a Gobi Stealth rack on a '21 Rubi JLU and it is the the rig of my dreams. The instructions were so so and it took four of us to get the tent on top of such a tall rig but I have no more road noise than I did without the tent, and that's with the bars and a yakima ski rack with four pairs of skis on top. In the cold (like 10 degrees F), the gas-powered shocks are a little less help than when they are warm so I have to really push the thing up with all those skis on ii, but no big deal. I feel like these temps are testing it. Even with venting the doors a little, anything below 15 degrees and the tent fills with ice but I guess that's to be expected. If it ends up being a sunny day, I leave the tent open in the parking lot of whatever mountain I'm at and when I come back, it's dry as a bone. This set up has allowed me and my son to chase powder all month and it's truly been the best.

Installation Suggestions

Just finished installing my new Falcon on a Subaru Outback, and offer here a couple installation suggestions. 1) It is easier to lift and position the tent with 3 or even 4 people, rather than two. 2) Take the advice offered by Roofnest and install the rubber layer on top of your rack crossbars. You need the clearance to get to the mounting bolts. Order the rubber bands well in advance as it may take a while to get them delivered. 3) Getting the mounting bolts cinched down adequately takes time. If you have a sunroof, the two closest to the front of the vehicle can be accessed more easily by opening the sunroof all three way and kneeling in the front seats. 4) Slide the ladder hooks into the groove BEFORE adding the latch assemblies. You can tighten them later but get them slid in first or you will have to remove part of the latch assembly later. 5) The latches are a very snug fit. You can make closing them easier by making sure that the cylinder cross piece on the smaller part of the assembly is pushed as close to the pivoting assembly as possible before tightening the allen bolts. There is only a little play but it is enough to make a difference. That’s it. Enjoy your tent

Wind and rain proof

I have been using our Falcon XL for about 2 months and love it. I recommended Roofnest to our son and they bought a Sparrow XL but this last weekend proved to be the best test. We had HEAVY rain and wind for 2 days near Easton washington, and we were dry, no leaks and held up perfectly in the wind.

Rooofnest Falcon

We drove from Las Vegas to Iowa and had a blast. We took the non-traditional route and visited all the national parks possible. Little wind noise on the highway on a Jeep JKU and it was a very comfortable at night. Recommended this to everyone who asked what was on my car lol
