With dropping temps and snow rolling in this month, we thought the best national park to highlight in December is Death Valley.

Death Valley is the lowest, driest, and hottest national park in the whole country. There are extreme and unbearable temps in the summer (over 100 at midnight sometimes!) Knowing that, this is the perfect time for a warm escape to Death Valley.

Camping

There are 6 campsites open during the winter season that are all first-come-first-served — besides one! The only campsite that you can book in advance is Furnace Creek, take a look and book your site here.

You can check out all the campsites here. They range from free to $24 a night with elevations ranging from sea level to 2100 feet all within an hour of each other. With over 450 spots between the campsites, you are almost guaranteed to find a spot to camp no matter when you go.

What to do

Biking

Death Valley has over 780 miles of beautifully paved road for some epic bike rides through the park. From easy routes such as Salt Creek Rd to the most difficult like Racetrack Rd. there is something to ride for everyone here, no matter your ability. Check out all the trails here and decide which one is best for you.

Don’t worry, if you’re more of an offroad person there are also hundreds of miles for mountain biking in the park as well. You can check out the trails at Titus canyon if you want the ride of your life, or for a more leisurely ride try out Westside Rd.

Hiking

From beautiful waterfalls to epic sand dunes, the hiking in Death Valley couldn’t be more diverse. There is hiking for everyone here. From trails that are less than half a mile like Harmony Borax Works to a 14-mile grueling hike such as Telescope Peak. Check out all of the amazing hikes here and see which one would be the best for you.
