This month, we were inspired by Roofnest teammate Nick Jaynes’ rig. Nick is in charge of Roofnest’s public and media relations efforts.

Nick’s adventure rig is a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, which he outfitted with one of our original Condors. In addition to the Condor, Nick has made a lot of changes to the Gladiator over the last year and a half.

He lifted it 2.5 inches with springs from Clayton Offroad and bolted up some 37-inch General Grabber X3 mud tires. He added a short ARB bumper upfront backed by a 10,000-pound WARN winch. Along the side, Nick installed rock sliders and nerf bars from Ace Engineering.

Inside, Nick recently added a Goose Gear 40% rear-seat delete and a Dometic CFX IM 55-quart fridge.

Over the bed, Nick added an Alu-Cab canopy with crossbars — that’s what the Condor is perched on. Inside the bed, Nick added a CargoGlide bed slide, which is essentially a big drawer and makes getting access to his gear even easier.

The latest addition to the Jeep is the rear dual-swing out bumper from Expedition One. The heavy-duty new bumper relocated his spare tire to up behind the bed rather than beneath it. On the other side, there’s space for two NATO jerry cans, too.

Nick says the rig is nearly finished — the last step is to upgrade the front brakes. That’s because when the Gladiator is loaded with gear, it tips the scales at 7,900 pounds — 2,350 more than the stock curb weight and 1,400 pounds more than the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).

The front brakes need to be replaced with bigger, stronger brakes in order to keep the rig (and others) safe on the road.

Take Your Overlanding to the Next Level

Modifying the Gladiator isn’t Nick’s only hobby. He takes it on some seriously cool overlanding trips, too.

Just like him, his canine companions love camping in his Roofnest and getting a warm, comfortable night’s sleep.
